The course offering directory (otherwise known as the COD)…the day it would pop up on the UVA website was Christmas in April, or November.
It turns out, PennMed allows its students to take up to three courses outside of the med curriculum at the university free of charge (a $4,000-$7,000 value, each!)…talk about temptation. I need to limit my perusing of the Penn catalog to, oh, an hour a day? Okay, I haven’t made it under an hour twenty yet. There’s a course being offered on the politics of food! And then there’s clay wheel throwing, and photography, and bioethics with Art Caplan. And all the English lit classes…because what I need more of in my life are more books….
Help?
Gee that pile of books looks just like the table beside my chair — only with less stuff.
jo
amazing! i would LOVE to see that!
Politics of food?? I don’t understand. I guess you’d better take that course so you can explain it to me.
Also, clay wheel throwing?? Clearly you need to take this class… that’ll take care of all your Christmas presents, right?? Everyone can have their very own handthrown clay pot under the tree this year.
See, Those classes are both necessities! Let me know if you need help justifying any other courses, I’m happy to help. (Although, for practical reasons, maybe you should just stick with courses that don’t have any homework or out of class assignments, like the pottery class. Use it as a release, but not something that will add extra stress or study time.)
Your comments made me laugh out loud…typical Tiff, always encouraging me to do what I love despite how ridiculous it might be. I love you so!
I have a better idea, when you’re in Philly, let’s check out that funky glaze and bake place down the street…do a little “pottery”/finger-painting together? Cannot wait!
I get the impression from FB that you want to be talked OUT of these decisions, but I’m just saying, if I could take free classes at Penn, I’d be all over them. Sleep when you’re dead Anna!
I’d maybe base the decision off of professor reviews. A good prof can make anything fascinating.
Catherine–SO good to hear from you! On an unrelated note, I totally went through all your wedding pictures (please don’t be freaked out), and you are so SO gorgeous and classic!
GREAT suggestion about the professor reviews…I hadn’t thought of that. I think I’m going to wait until next semester, get my feet wet a little. What are you up to now?
Aw, thanks. In my previous comment I was going to say that you looked gorgeous in your pic up top, but then I wasn’t sure you’d know who I was, so I didn’t. Consider it said.
Well… I resigned from my teaching position, which I didn’t hate, but didn’t love either. I’ve spent the summer trying to figure out my life. All I’ve discovered is that I’m incredibly scattered. I’m taking the Foreign Service Exam in October and cramming until then. I’m trying to get some event planning experience. I’m blogging a lot and freelance writing a little. I’m about to start a photoshop class next week. Only thing I’m not doing much of right now is making money.
C’est la vie, I suppose.
You’re on my google reader as of yesterday, so I’ll follow along with your adventure. Also, my brother’s living in Philly, so maybe I’ll see if your available for coffee or something next time I’m up there?
Awesome! And I just added “30days…” to my reader–it looks hilarious!
Of course I remember you! Funny thing, I might have told you this at some point, but before London, my first clear memory of you was from 382 discussion. You made the most sincere, thoughtful comment about Song of Myself–I was really taken aback, in a good way.
Looks like both of our lives are kind of in transitions. The Foreign Service sounds fascinating, and I would love to hear more about it! I totally feel you on the money front; student loans are terrifying.
Please do let me know if/when you’re in the area. I would love to see you and catch up, but no pressure, of course, if you’re swamped with family outings. There is a wonderful coffee shop nearby that I think you would like…
