We are absolutely thrilled to announce that I will be a resident in pediatrics at the University of Virginia! UVA. Home. John secured a position in the area and we already signed on a house–lots of big steps for us!
I regret that I didn’t have much of an opportunity to celebrate with my class and take more pictures (Ari flat out refused), but weather (snow/sleet/sludge) + parking 15 blocks away + match time being the same as nap time made for a rather tenuous family outing. Still, the little ones were good distractions when I waited for my name to be drawn out of the hat. And I was so thankful to be able to share it with them, with John, with my class–it’s a unique rite of passage, for sure!
More soon. Thank you to everyone for the support in the last few weeks, in the last five years really. CONGRATULATIONS PENN MED 2015!!!!!
Congrats…but I am curious–how did your husband get a job and you sign for a house already when you just found out today???
Thank you! Good questions. Will get into it more in a couple days, but the timing is so short, that he really had to start looking for jobs a year ago. His new employers were aware that he couldn’t commit until I matched. Regarding the house, it’s still in the inspection phase, so we could get out of it during this time. We also put in the contract that our buying would be contingent on my match. If I didn’t match, we would only lose the inspection fee. Sneaky, sneaky 🙂
Wow, that’s amazing you could work that all out!
You are a rockstar! We are so very proud of you both!
That means the world to me 🙂 Cannot wait to celebrate soon!
I’m about to start med school and have been following your blog for the last year or so- CONGRATULATIONS on matching!! Such an exciting time. I hope you’ll continue to share your journey through your residency. I’ve found your insight so helpful over the last year! Congratulations again!!
Hi Katie,
Wow, what a kind note! It’s funny, because I never feel like I have any “insights”! But I’m really flattered that you have been reading.
Good luck with med school! Every year is better than the last (I say this now…but kind of expecting intern year to kick my butt!).
Thank you!!

Wow! Yay!!!! You may remember that I live a few miles north of Harrisonburg, so I find your match particularly cool! Our hospital (Rockingham Memorial) is always escalating cases and sending them to UVa. You’re going to be one of the cool kids! And if I know anybody who has a kid at the UVa hospital, I can tell them that one of their residents is absolutely terrific and they should look for her.
Charlottesville is so beautiful, as you know! And you’ll be fairly close to where you grew up! Such a win!!!
Okay, I think I’m depleting the world’s supply of exclamation marks, so I should shut up now . . . 🙂
AAAHHHH!!!!!! So, so exciting!! Ha–one of the cool kids…haven’t been one of those since maybe the third grade, and even then it was a fleeting thing.
Thank you so so much for the kind words!!!!
Congratulations!!
Thank you so much!!
Congratulations !! SO happy you got that “happy ending!” Yay for going back home and taking that leap of faith with the house, your husband’ s job etc. You are such an inspiration 😀
Lucky…I feel so, so lucky! Yes, leap of faith–I cannot believe it worked out!! Thank you so much for the kind note!!
