help? advice?

11 Mar

A few of my med school buddies recently started up Stylus, an artistic and literary journal.  I would really like to submit something, but I’m at a loss.  I have a desktop full of page-long starts but they are all, to put it mildly, boring.  Most of the topics I’ve been trying out are also too broad, like the stuff of longer essays and such, and I would prefer to turn in something short and crisp, not something to which a reader would have to make a commitment, ya know?

So…are there any entries you’ve seen that you’ve particularly liked?  Any that you would like to see me expand upon or clean up?  Or do you have any questions or suggestions?

I welcome any ideas!  And thank you in advance.

    “As patient” was pretty sharp.

Is this new journal exclusive to Penn Med? I know some students at other med schools who might be interested in submitting.

Hi! Thanks so much for your input, Maureen. I really appreciate it 🙂

I’m going to forward your question to my friend. I have no idea who can and cannot submit. How’s school going for you?

I think Nov 11 has potential. It’s a very unusual event, not the usual stuff Med folks chat about, which is one of the reasons our MDs have a poor rep for “bedside manner.”

Why not write about your experience with the cello? I bet there are a few powerful essays in you on that general theme.

Could be good for you too. I find that when I write about something it’s often quite cathartic.

Don’t know whether we are allowed/ supposed to experience catharses these days or not….
